  Line up of Joshua Polanski's Guided Film Club 2026 mapped out in a "Slow Cinemas" chart with a horizontal axis from Slower to Slow and a vertical axis from Quiet to Talkative. The Contemplative Cinema occupies the lower left quadrant (much slower and practically without dialogue), while the Baltic Poetic Documentary occupies the right half (with quick edit and sometimes voice over commentary), without overlapping. Outside the Slow Cinemas circle are Avant Garde experiments. We will hold each other accountable as we finally work through mammoth runtimes on films like Lav Diaz’s Evolution of a Filipino Family (10 hours and 43 minutes). We will learn together and from each other about diverse cinema traditions and filmmakers. And we will even debate whether or not there even is even an identifiable movement or aesthetic that we can accurately call “slow cinema.”  Each meeting will have recommended (not required) short readings, optional viewings, and required viewings. All films will be reasonably accessible to view from home at free or low costs. (Merci à Axel Munoz pour m'avoir fait découvrir ce cinéaste lithuanien méconnu) Le cinéma contemplatif d’Audrius Stonys (Novembre 2024) BPI Une rétrospective est consacrée à la Bpi du 7 au 18 novembre 2024 au réalisateur lituanien Audrius Stonys qui porte un regard sensible sur ses contemporain·es. La caméra d’Audrius Stonys s’attarde sur le quotidien d’hommes et de femmes, leur rapport à la nature et à l’autre, mais aussi au temps qui passe. Attaché aux détails, le réalisateur filme sous différents angles, en changeant de perspectives, la vie des Lituaniens et Lituaniennes, leur histoire et leurs traditions. La musique, très présente dans son œuvre, les vues du ciel et de la terre, donnent à voir et à entendre la beauté poétique et spirituelle de la vie.
